FROM THE MEKONG DELTA TO THE BEACHES OF PHU QUOC
Start your trip to Vietnam! Saigon, the former capital of Cochin China, considered by the French at the time of the colony as "the little Paris" of the Middle East, was renamed Ho Chi Minh City in 1975, during the reunification of Vietnam, the date that marks the end of the war. Ho Chi Minh city is a huge megalopolis of the south, which is modernizing and developing without delay, as crazy, almost unruly and rebellious!
Our visit takes us to District 1 where we discover Notre Dame Cathedral, the central post office, nearby, whose structure is the work of Gustave Eiffel, the Governor's Palace (former Palace of the Presidents of the Republic of Vietnam). This huge pedestrian avenue, Nguyen Hue, offers us a view of the Bitexco tower, the 3rd highest tower in the country.
In the afternoon, it's time for a colourful, fragrant and tasty walk in Chinatown Cholon. We cross crowded streets, pagodas, and old colonial buildings before visiting the Binh Tay market where we can taste all kinds of typical dishes.
Free
evening to discover the city centre under lights and the Ben Thanh night
market.
After 2 hours of driving, we arrived in Ben Tre, a city in the Mekong Delta. We take a sampan for a walk on the river, in the heart of the unceasing activity of the Vietnamese people. Visit of a workshop where coconut-based sweets are made.
Disembarkation in Nhon Thanh to go to the streets of the village. Tasting of tea, tropical fruits. Visit of a carpet factory.
Then we ride bicycles to cross rice fields and orchards. The countryside is rich and prosperous. Lunch break by the river.
We reach the orchard of Cai Mon to taste the many and varied seasonal fruits. The road leads us to Can Tho: we are in the heart of the Mekong Delta!
Possibility
to discover the surroundings by foot or bicycle.
The visit of the Cai Rang floating market, typical in this delta region, is the highlight of the morning. In a colourful atmosphere, each boat identifies its cargo by a pole at the end of which is hung the product sold!
